Men issued with football banning orders after assault at railway station - Kent

Three men who assaulted a man following an argument on a train have been banned from football grounds in the UK for between three and five years, following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.
John Ryan, 62, of Grace Avenue, Maidstone, Freddie Dunmall, 20 of Melrose Close, Maidstone and Camron Brockman, 21, of New Road, Featherstone carried out the assault on the platform at Halling railway station after attending a Maidstone United football match.
They were sentenced on Monday 7 September at Maidstone Magistrates Court with Brockman receiving a five-year football banning order, which prevents him from entering any football ground in the UK. Ryan and Dunmall each received three-year football banning orders. They were also all given community orders of between 12 and 18 months along with associated rehabilitation requirements.
The court heard how on Sunday 18 May last year, at around 5.30pm, a report was received about a large fight on board a train travelling towards Halling railway station following Maidstone United’s play-off final fixture earlier that afternoon.
The train was stopped at Halling by Revenue Enforcement Officers who were on-board the service. An injured man who had been escorted off the train and onto a platform, was followed out by Dunmall, and punched by him. He was then punched twice by Ryan and kicked by Brockman.
British Transport Police officers attended the station and took down details of those reported to have been involved in the incident. Dunmall, Ryan and Brockman were interviewed the following month and all subsequently charged with affray.
PC Oliver Millar, from BTP’s football policing unit, said: “As a result of their frankly stupid behaviour, these three football fans will now be unable to attend any football matches in the UK for up to five years.
“There is simply no excuse for violence - and these banning orders should serve as a reminder to anyone who believes they can get away with unacceptable behaviour on the railway – there will be consequences.”
