Victim of serious assault at Tube station dies – London

A 32-year-old man has sadly died in hospital following a serious assault at Liverpool Street Underground station on Sunday night (30 August).

Officers and paramedics were called to the station’s eastbound Central Line platform at 10.51pm on Sunday 30 August following reports of a serious assault.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition and very sadly passed away on 1 September surrounded by his family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

Prior to his death, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had authorised a charge of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) against Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, in connection to the incident.

Maximo, a British national, is being held in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today (2 September)

Following the victim's death, British Transport Police (BTP) detectives will now make an application to amend the charge on the indictment which will take place at a later date at court.

BTP Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: “First and foremost our thoughts are firmly with loved ones of the young man who has sadly died. They are being supported by specially trained officers as our investigation continues.

“We continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist our investigation. Any piece of information could be vital to us.
