His Majesty The King today (8 July) officially opened British Transport Police’s (BTP) new London headquarters at Buckingham Palace Road, marking a major milestone for the Force.
During the visit, His Majesty met officers, staff and guests from across BTP and the wider railway family, learning more about our role in policing Britain’s railways and protecting the travelling public.
He spent time with officers and staff from a range of different teams including our Dog Section, Firearms, Drones and Specialist Response Unit, before unveiling a plaque alongside the Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi.
The visit celebrated the completion of one of the largest and most complex relocations in BTP’s history, bringing together teams previously based at Camden and St James Park under one roof and providing a modern space for them to work.
The official opening was an opportunity to celebrate the new headquarters, recognise the contribution of staff and partners involved in the relocation, and showcase the collaborative approach that underpins policing across the railway network.
Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi CVO QPM said: "It was an absolute privilege to welcome His Majesty the King to officially open our new London office, and celebrate one of the largest and most complex relocations in our history. His Majesty enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about BTP and to meet such a broad variety of colleagues, each representing different aspects of the force across England, Scotland and Wales.
"The event today also gave us a chance to recognise the scale of the move to Buckingham Palace Road and celebrate the opportunities for joint collaborative working it gives us."
