Misconduct Hearing - A Former Police Constable

NOTICE OF HEARING TO BE HELD IN PUBLIC

Name of officer concerned: A Former Police Constable

A former Police Constable, previously based in London, will be subject of an accelerated misconduct hearing to answer allegations that his conduct amounted to breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour.

It is alleged that:

1. On 31 May 2026, whilst on duty and driving a marked police vehicle, the officer permitted passengers to be carried in the vehicle without a policing purpose, and that in doing so he exceeded the safe and permitted number of passengers for the vehicle and failed to use legally required restraints.
2. On 10 June 2026, the officer reported for duty whilst the level of alcohol in his breath exceeded the permitted level.
3. On 31 May 2026 and/or 10 June 2026, the officer provided misleading accounts to his supervisor regarding the incident described in the first allegation.

The officer is said to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to:

• Honesty and Integrity
• Orders and Instructions
• Duties and Responsibilities
• Authority, Respect and Courtesy
• Discreditable Conduct
• Fitness for Duty
• Authority, Respect and Courtesy

It is alleged that these matters individually and/or cumulatively amount to gross misconduct, namely a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour that, if proved, are so serious as to justify dismissal.

The officer has been granted provisional anonymity, pending determination of an application for anonymity which will be heard at the hearing. No information identifying the officer should be published or reported.

Representatives of the media may make written or oral representations to the hearing chair or person conducting an accelerated misconduct hearing regarding any proposed exclusion or directions prohibiting the publication of matters relating to the proceedings. Due to the late publication of this notice, such applications should be sent to [email protected] before 10am on the day of the hearing. Applications received after this time will not be considered.

BTP will not be liable for any expenses incurred to attend a public hearing, including if a hearing does not commence as scheduled, or where the public are no longer permitted to observe any or all of the proceedings.
