Sorry, there was a technical problem. Please try again.
This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
We understand there may be times when you want to verify the identity of a BTP officer.
Our officers are used to explaining who they are and what they’re doing – so please never feel worried about asking.
They’ll be happy to reassure you. Our officers all carry a warrant card containing photo identification.
If an officer is off duty and does not have access to their radio, they will identify themselves using their warrant card which contains photo identification and use their mobile device on loudspeaker to phone the control room. You will be able to hear the conversation they are having.
The control room will be able to confirm the officer’s details and will provide you with the incident log number.
Again, if you are still concerned, please dial 999 and the local force will contact BTP for verification.
