PC Joe Le Cappelain and Former PC Jack Hunter, based in Brighton, were due to attend an Accelerated Hearing on Tuesday 28th January 2025 via Microsoft Teams, to answer allegations relating to breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of:
The IOPC obtained content from a WhatsApp group named 'Team 3', dated April 2023 to August 2023. A review of the content of this WhatsApp group highlighted a number of messages and conversations within the group which could be deemed as inappropriate, offensive, derogatory and/or otherwise not in keeping with policing values.
It was alleged that, as members of the above WhatsApp group, PC Joe Le Cappelain and Former PC Jack Hunter:
The Chair, Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi, found most of the allegations proven and that they amounted to gross misconduct. PC Joe Le Cappelain was dismissed without notice, and Former PC Jack Hunter would have been dismissed from the force with immediate effect had he not ceased to be an officer.
