British Transport Police (BTP) in Wales have joined with young people on a project to drive down incidents of trespass.
Over the last year, British Transport Police in Wales has seen an increase in the number of young people trespassing on the rail network around Conwy Station.
Working with Transport for Wales, Conwy Valley and North Wales Community Rail Partnership and artist Andy Birch, BTP has worked with pupils from Ysgol Aberconwy School to create artwork in one of the station’s shelters to highlight important safety messages and deter instances trespass.
Not only is trespassing on the rail network illegal, but it can also cause life changing injuries and, in some cases, death.
PCSO Sue Hall from BTP in North Wales said:
“In the past year, anti-social behaviour, including trespass, committed by youths has become a worrying trend in the Conwy area. In an effort to help deter poor behaviour we have used our positive relationship with Ysgol Aberconwy, along with Transport for Wales, Conwy Valley and North West Wales Community Rail Partnership and the artist Andy Birch to engage some of the school’s students. In total, 22 pupils worked with Andy to produce an amazing rail safety messaging within the waiting shelter at Conwy Station.”
