A 32-year-old man who assaulted a member of Boots staff has been jailed for 4 and a half months following a British Transport Police investigation.
Peter Quinn, of Moston Bank Avenue, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop and assault and was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 June.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £153.99.
The court heard how, on Tuesday 30 May at around 6.30am, Quinn stole two boxes of razor blades from Boots on Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station concourse.
When the staff member attempted to stop him leaving the store Quinn lashed out, punching him with force to the side of his head, causing him to fall to the floor and lose consciousness.
The victim was left shaken and attended hospital to be checked over by medics.
Investigating officer PC Brandon Fairbrother-Clarke said: "Quinn showed no remorse for this violent assault on a member of staff who was simply doing his job.”
"Violence and abuse of retail staff will not be tolerated and those who, like Quinn, think station staff are fair game, will be dealt with robustly and brought before the courts."
