A 34-year-old man has been jailed for 20 months for transporting drugs on the railway, following a British Transport Police investigation.
Christopher Stephen Turnbull-Allen, of Westgarth Court, Kirkby Stephen, was jailed at Leeds Crown Court on yesterday, (11 March) after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to possession with intent to supply a class A drug and possession with intent to supply a class B drug.
The court heard how on Friday 11 August last year a British Transport Police officer spotted Turnbull-Allen behaving suspiciously and appearing nervous, as he was about to board a train to Carlisle.
He was searched and found to be carrying a plastic carrier bag which contained another bag with a freezer zip bag inside. In it was a large amount of white powder. He was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply and before a custody search admitted to another stash of drugs in his shorts pocket.
The drugs were later identified as class B Mephedrone and class A MDMA with a total street value of between £2590 and £4620.
Investigating officer DS Lee Parsons said: “Transporting drugs on the railway is futile – we have eyes everywhere and you will be caught. We have plain clothes officers on the railway every day conducting operations to put drug suppliers like Turnbull-Allen behind bars.”
