A 28 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following a serious assault at Ilford station.
Officers were called to Ilford railway station at around 8.49pm yesterday (4 December) following reports of a serious assault.
Paramedics and London's Air Ambulance also attended, and a man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. His next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
Superintendent Nick Sedgemore said: “There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network. I would like to reassure the public this is an isolated incident and a 28 year old man is now in custody. We are not seeking anyone else in connection.
“We are working at pace on this investigation and continue to support the family of the victim.”
Enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 699 of 4 December.
