A serving officer has been convicted of a sexual offence in Scotland.
PC Iain Bagley was found guilty of communicating indecently under Section 7(1) Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.
He received an admonition at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was also ordered to join the Sex Offender’s Register for five years.
The court heard PC Bagley sent messages to a 16-year-old between February and April 2019.
PC Bagley had been on restricted duties and a fast track misconduct process will now take place.
Deputy Chief Constable Adrian Hanstock said: “PC Bagley’s behaviour was undoubtedly disturbing and I understand this will be of significant concern to the public.
“Every day our officers work hard to build trust by properly upholding the law and protecting the travelling public. That hard won trust and confidence is clearly undermined when an officer is convicted of a criminal offence such as this.
"PC Bagley has brought discredit upon the force and his behaviour does not reflect the standards or attitudes of BTP. We will now be exploring options to accelerate the misconduct process which must automatically follow this conviction.”
