Flash Mobs

A flash mob is a large group of people who get together in a public place, perform an activity such as dancing, and then disperse.

The events are usually organised on the internet using applications such as Facebook and Twitter.

While the events are fun and generally harmless, organising and participating in a flash mob at a railway station can be unsafe. By their very nature, a flash mob brings a lot of people into one place at the same time which can cause overcrowding and disruption to passengers and staff at that station.

We encourage anyone who intends to organise a flash mob at a station not to, as past events have caused station closures due to overcrowding, which affects those who are using the network to travel.

We are not out to spoil the fun but we do need to ensure the rail and Tube networks can continue to operate without disruption. British Transport Police may turn you away if we think you are entering a station in order to take part in a flash mob. If you persist, you may commit an offence and face arrest.
