Current Neighbourhood Policing
Priorities
|
1. Anti-Social Behaviour: Line of route
between Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil
Reassurance patrols have
been increased at stations and on trains between Pontypridd
and Merthyr Tydfil to address emerging instances of anti
social behviour. This includes the consumption of alcohol by
minors.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team
activity will be on all days, with particular attention being given
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 5pm and 11pm.
|
Actions
Throughout the month of March we have and will continue
to:
-
Increase the number of uniformed patrols
to the key locations in order to provide reassurance that we are
responding to the problem.
-
Increase the number of uniformed patrols
on the trains at key times with a specific objective to provide
reassurance to staff working on those services.
-
Positively deter the young community from
congregating at the stations by repeated visits to problem hot
spots.
-
Engage with South Wales Police in
partnership initiatives and operations to combat anti-social
behaviour in the Merthyr Valley.

|
2. Unlawful Trespass: Treherbert
A problem solving plan is being
created to tackle the ongoing trespass issue at Treherbert railway
station. The policing activity will focus on deterring members of
the public from trespassing unlawfully on the railway lines and
associated land situated to the north of the station. The problem
is on most days, particularly at weekends.

Actions
Throughout the month of March we have and will continue
to:
|
|
3. Passenger and
Staff Reassurance: Pontypridd Railway Station
Increased patrols
at Pontypridd station continue to be a priority for the
Neighbourhood Policing Team, providing reassurance to passengers
and staff and deterring criminal activity in the vicinity of the
station and forecourt area. The policing activity is on all
days with particular attention being given between 10am
and 8pm.
|
Actions
Throughout the month March we have and will continue
to:
- Positively identify and deter individuals who frequent the
railway station for the purpose of commiting criminal acts.
- Work with Arriva Trains Wales staff and station tenants to
actively encourage early reporting of incidents of anti-social
behaviour, begging, loitering and theft.

PACT (Police and Communities Together)
Meetings
PACT meetings are open to everyone living or spending time in
that particular Local Policing Team area. They are planned,
advertised days when a Local Neighbourhood Officer will attend a
particular location on a given day at a given time. These
meetings provide the community with access to their Local
Neighbourhood Policing Team where they can talk on a one to one
basis about issues specific to their local neighbourhood.
The next PACT meeting is scheduled to be held on
Tuesday 3 July 2012 commencing at 10.30 am at British
Transport Police, 3 Callaghan Square, Cardiff CF10 5BT
Community Engagement
Aberfan-Merthyr Vale Positive Engagement
The Pontypridd Neighbourhood Team (PCSO Enfys
Evans) took a group of 12-15 year olds from the Aberfan-Merthyr
Vale Youth Community Project to the Arriva Trains Wales train
simulator in Cardiff in February 2012. The purpose of the visit was
to strengthen links with the project and to deliver a talk on
railway safety, as well as showing the youth group around the train
simulator. The close proximity of the Youth Community Project to
Merthyr Vale station provides a terrific opportunity to engage with
the young community in the area, which has been successfully done
for the last few years.
Rail Safety Reps Scheme
The Network Rail Safety Reps Scheme, supported
by British Transport Police, continues to gather momentum in the
South and West Wales region with a total of 17 primary schools
successfully signing up to the scheme. PCSOs from Swansea, Cardiff
and Pontypridd continue to work tirelessly to promote the scheme,
with particular emphasis being given to the primary schools that
feed the comprehensive schools that use the railway network to go
to and from that place of education. The objective is to have at
least 20 schools using the scheme before April 2012.
