Priorities
|
1. Anti-social behaviour
|
Actions
- Rail staff have identified problems of youths loitering
at Bathgate station intimidating staff and passengers.
- We have increased our high visibility patrols at Bathgate
station to provide reassurance to train staff and
passengers.
- We are working with Lothian and Borders Police to tackle youth
disorder and underage drinking.
- We are attending local Youth Festivals to advise youth
people on railway safety.
Results/Update - May 2012
- In April officers conducted uniformed and plain
clothed patrols at Bathgate station.
- During these patrols crime prevention advice was
given in relation to keeping high value electronic items save and
secure.
|
| 2. Route crime |
Actions
- The area around Livingston North station has been
identified as a hot spot for railway trespass and
vandalism.
- We are engaging in bicycle patrols and plain clothed
patrols to deter and detect line of route offenders.
- We are working with Lothian and Borders Police to deter and
detect those who take short cuts over the electronic lines, throw
missiles at trains or obstruct the railway lines.
- We are attending primary schools in the area giving talks
on railway safety to children.
Results/Update - May 2012
- During April extra patrols have been enforced
following reports from local residents living near Livingston
North.
- Local days of action have been held at level crossings
giving advice to pedestrians and motorists on railway
safety.

|
3. Public Reassurance
|
Actions
- We will aim to increase public reassurance and drive forward
quality of service by doing the following:
- Direct patrols using intelligence led policing to be visible at
key times and key locations.
- Through use of Neighbourhood policing newsletters, BTP websites
and other media sources, publicise our work and engagements within
the community.
- Keep victims of crimes updated of the progress of
enquiries.
- Hold regular PACT meetings to fully integrate our community in
the future planning processes of problem solving.
Results/Update - May 2012
- BTP websites and other media sources, publicise our work
and engagements within the community.
- The second edition of
our newsletter is full of interesting articles from
Neighbourhood Policing Teams throughout Scotland and can be found
at the foot of this page.
- Our most recent PACT surgery was held at Bathgate station
on 26 March.

Current issues
The attached link provides a short film
produced by the Violence Reduction Unit entitled “Have You Got The
Bottle?” http://www.actiononviolence.co.uk/content/have-you-got-bottle
It forms a key part of the unit’s strategy
that recognises that violence is a chronic problem in Scotland that
is inextricably linked to alcohol misuse. The Violence Reduction
Unit acknowledges that alcohol has consistently been one of the
most difficult issues to achieve since it needs to challenge the
whole attitude of a nation towards excessive alcohol consumption
and the associated public health risks. The film is thought
provoking and promotes responsible drinking by highlighting the
devastating impact it has on society.
