Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Reduce theft from passengers on the Victoria Line from Victoria to Brixton Tube Station

We/Our partners have:

In the month of February 2012

  • We have been working in conjunction with the police team at Victoria Station and conducting joint patrols.
  • Given advice regarding theft prevention to members of the public.
  • Local officers have also conducted crime prevention advice initiatives at Victoria LUL station during the morning and evening rush hours and have been engaging with members of the travelling public.
  • High visibility patrols have been conducted at all stations on the Victoria Line South group and as a result only 3 theft offences were committed during these patrols.

In the month of March 2012

  • Crime prevention advice will continue to be given to the travelling public at stations on the Victoria Line and engagement will also continue at busy locations such as Victoria LUL station during the morning and evening rush hours.
  • Targeted high visibility patrols will continue as will patrols by officers in plain clothes to detect offenders on the Victoria Line and other parts of London Underground.
  • Local businesses are being liaised with as many of the employees use the London Underground on a daily basis. Employees can then be offered the opportunity to speak with police at their place of work as opposed to when they are travelling.

2. Reduce by 20% the number of less serious violence offences on the Victoria Line.

You Said:

During the past few months the number of less serious violence offences has risen, these offences include assaults which culminate in either no injury or just minor injury.

We/our partners have:

In the month of February 2012

  • A review of crime statistics confirms only one less serious violence offence has been recorded during February.
  • Officers have conducted high visibility patrols late at night and have been proactive when dealing with people carrying open containers of alcohol.
  • Officers have patrolled with London Underground Revenue Inspectors thus reducing the opportunity for people to commit violent offences on members of staff.

In the month of March 2012

  • Focus our patrols at stations where most of the offences are occurring or have historically occurred.
  • Use any intelligence we gain and our local knowledge to focus these patrols and consider changing the format of our patrols to address the problem.
  • Use volunteer Police Special Constables to increase our visibility on the line to help deter offenders.
  • Because alcohol consumption can be directly related to offences of assault a positive approach to dealing with the consumption of alcohol on the Victoria Line will be utilised.
  • Use of the London Underground public announcement system will be considered so that members of the public are aware that officers are on patrol.
  • Assaults against London Underground staff  can also fall into the category of less serious violence and therefore police officers will continue to support staff, for example during revenue operations which target fare evaders.
