Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Reduce theft from passengers on all stations covered by the team.

You Said:

Theft is the highest occurring crime on the Piccadilly Line Centre group.

Understanding this, our initial intention is to provide a minimum of 20 hours per week dedicated to anti-theft patrols on the Piccadilly Line Central Team.

Over a period of 3 months we aim to reduce theft offences by 10% compared with the same period a year previous.

We/our partners have:

  • Planned for more station surgeries - This allows members of the public easy interaction with the team as they will be present at a set time an date to address any concerns around travelling on the tube. The teams main aim is to increase awareness of this type of crime and educate passengers on how to avoid becoming victims.

  • Officers will actively seek out and speak to passengers who they feel may be a potential victim of a theft offence. This involves people with unzipped bags and visible valuables, i.e. wallets in back pockets.

  • London Underground staff will be encouraged to watch a Pick Pocket awareness DVD and in turn, also provide passengers with crime prevention advice

  • The team will be working closely with specialist anti-theft teams, plain clothes officers and additional Police Officers as part of Operation Silence. This operation specifically targets an affected area with the aim to prevent and detect theft offences.
