Current neighbourhood policing
priorities
|
1. Bike Theft
|
This priority was raised at a PACT
meeting in June 2011, and reviewed by community
partners, it was decided to continue with the plan.
Actions
- We set up two passenger surgeries, working
with our community partners and crime reduction team, focusing on
anti-theft advice and bike marking.
- Daily patrols have focused on speaking
directly to passengers who use the bike racks at Waterloo
station.
- We are working with Network Rail to increase
the number of announcements on trains and stations advising people
to guard their property
- Plain clothes officers will be
deployed in order to reduce cycle crime
Results
- Throughout February and March
2012 Hub officers have been proactively conducting covert
observations at all cycle rack locations at Waterloo. A planned
initiative incorporating the BTP Crime Reduction Team saw up to 70
bikes being security tagged and crime prevention advice offered to
bike owners. A Hub team initiative also saw 90 leaflets handed out
advising bike owners to invest in heavy duty bike
locks.
- For October to December
2011:
5 reported
offences
- For January to March 2012:
3 reported
offences
- This equates to a reduction of 40.00%
on previous quarter.
- For January to March 2012:
3 reported
offences
- This equates to a reduction of 40.00%
on previous quarter.

2. Theft Passenger
Property
|
Thefts form the majority of reported
crimes around the Waterloo Hub. Discussed at July 2011 PACT
meetings, it was decided to continue with this priority.
Actions
- We will set up passenger surgeries working with our community
partners and crime reduction team focusing on
providing anti-theft advice to passengers.
- Daily patrols have focused on speaking directly to passengers
who travel through Waterloo.
- We are working with Network Rail to increase the number of
announcements on trains and stations advising people to guard their
property.
- Throughout July and August 2011, joint anti-theft
initiatives with Clapham NPT have offered crime prevention advice,
distributed advisory leaflets and increased train
announcements.
- We have encouraged the marking of high value items such as
iPhones, Blackberry's, iPads, laptops, digital cameras etc.
Results
- October 2010 – February 2011 there were
160 reported Thefts of passenger property offences.
- October 2011 – February 2012 there were
130 reported Thefts of passenger property offences:
- This equates to a 19.00% reduction in
reported Theft passenger property offences in the same period year
to date
