Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Anti-social behaviour

Our target is to achieve a 5% reduction in offences at Victoria Hub.

Between November 2010 and July 2011 there was an overall 16% increase in offences of this nature. The figure has seen a reduction in the last 2 months after a huge spike in offences in January 2011. This priority is ongoing.

Actions

  • We are currently running an operation which started at the beginning of March to put extra officers on patrol during the week-ends to prevent anti social behaviour.

This also reassures both the staff and passengers late in the evening that there is a police presence on the station. This was also implemented last year in the run up to Christmas with the positive effect that it helped lower the perception of crime on the station and anti social behaviour offences on the station were lowered during the period.

Results

  • 42% Reduction from Police generated detections up to the end of February.

2.Violence against the person

Our target is to achieve a 10% reduction in offences from 2010's figures.

At present there has been a 6% increase since the introduction in comparison with 2010. Tasking and high-visibility Patrols have seen an increase in stops, and the introduction of s.27 notification will impact on alcohol-related disorder.

Actions

  • Again with the extra officers on duty during the weekend this has helped with making sure Violence against the person, which is one of the teams priorities is tackled successfully. We also cover the footprint with joint patrols with the Metropolitan police from the Victoria Coach station.

Results

  • 15.7% reduction in all types of Violence since April 2011 to the end of February 2012

3. Theft retail

We aim to achieve a 10% reduction in retail theft at Victoria in comparison with 2010.

This will focus on the 5 main stores at Victoria primarily. PSP introduced in February 2011.

Actions

  • During March our BTP volunteers have been working on Crime prevention, visiting the café’s and Theft hotspots giving out advice and leaflets to try and reduce retail Theft further.
  • In conjunction with the other security companies from retailers on the station we have made sure that we have seamlessly integrated our resources to combat thefts from the retailers on the station and take positive action to prosecute offenders.

Results

  • In February 2012 alone we have carried out 6 crime prevention surgeries at coffee shops on the station.

In conjunction with the other security companies from retailers on the station we have made sure that we have seamlessly integrated our resources to combat thefts from the retailers on the station and take positive action to prosecute offenders.

  • 17 thefts from retailers were committed in February, a 37% drop from this time last year.

4. Theft of Passenger Property

We aim to achieve a 5% reduction in theft of passenger property at Victoria station in comparison with the same period in 2011

Actions

  • Theft of property is by far our largest bulk crime at the station, Operation Cobweb which is a pan London anti theft operation has been very successful at the station cutting crime on the days it is held. The last operation was held at the beginning of March.

Op Satus:

Additional funding made available to us has ensured that we have had extra high visibility Officers from 1600 hours until midnight from Thursday’s through to Saturdays during March. This has provided extra reassurance to the travelling public at Victoria and contributed to the drop in Theft of personal property that we have recently experienced.

Results

  • As at the end of January 2012, theft of passenger property has fallen by 22.96%.
  • Up to the end of February theft of passenger property on the station is down 14% from this time last year.
  • Four joint METROPOLITAN POLICE/BTP bike marking surgeries were carried out during the month of March with great success. Dozens of bikes were property marked and recorded onto ‘ The Bike Register’  - 18 bikes alone were marked at Evans Cycles on Thursday 29th March.
