Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Theft

Prevention and detection of acts of theft of passenger property remains a target for the BTP in general as well as for the team. The team are actively engaged in preventing and detecting theft offences on our neighbourhood.

Actions

  • A new Problem Solving Profile for theft has been created to focus and record our actions tackling this issue.
  • Officers have conducted a series of joint operations with Sussex Police, Immigration, Croydon BTP, FCC and Southern Revenue Teams at Gatwick. This operation is focusing on preventing and detecting theft from person.

Results

  • As at 24 January 2012 there has been no increase in thefts at Gatwick Airport with 5 offences being reported in January 2012.
  • During March 2012 there have been no reported thefts of passenger property on our Neighbourhood.
  • Officers having been deployed on property marking schemes at London Bridge which has proved a great success.
2. Anti-social behaviour

In 2011 anti-social behaviour has been highlighted as an ongoing problem. This has been brought to our attention by our colleagues from FCC and passengers travelling on the network.

Actions

  • The team have altered their shifts to meet the needs of our community and are now working later into the night, providing high visibility train and station patrols to prevent incidents and provide reassurance.
  • The team uses a zero tolerance attitude towards acts of anti-social behaviour and public order offences.

Results

  • There have been no reports of anti-social behaviour to police on our Neighbourhood during March 2012.
  • As at the beginning of April 2012; there has been a reduction of 5% in anti-social behaviour offences reported compared to the same time in 2011.
3. Cycle Theft

Through analysis of crime figures on our area and by listening to our community it has been identified that Cycle crime is a priority for our team.

Actions

  • High visibility patrols are taking place in key locations in order to detect and deter thefts.
  • Crime Prevention surgeries are being held around the network offering advice to passengers. The team are also encouraging bicycle owners to register with the BikeRegister database.
  • The team engages with a positive arrest Policy when dealing with offenders.

Results

  • At the beginning of March 2012 Officers from FCC took part in a Cycle Marking Scheme where 25 passengers had their bikes marked and registered. This has now become an regular event for the team at London Bridge.
  • Cycle crime is very rare on the area with no offences reported during March 2012.
