Current neighbourhood policing priorities

We have conducted a crime pattern analysis, and a survey of our residents, and as agreed by our residents within St. Pancras International, the issues identified will be our priorities for the next three months. Priorities will be reviewed periodically in order that we properly address the concerns and needs of our community.

20th December 2011 - Following a crime pattern analysis, and a public survey of our residents, the results have shown that the priorities for this quarter remain consistent with previous priorities. Priorities are set based on the wishes of the attendees and are shown below to run until 20th April 2012 and we will report back to our residents regularly any actions taken in support in dealing with these priorities. However, in addition to the priorities agreed by the survey and PACT, an additional priority of reducing the incidents of cycle crimes, has been added to reflected an emerging trend and to support our stakeholder within the NCP.

1. Theft of passenger property

Issues: Property is being stolen from a variety of locations , but a pattern has emerged of victims being distracted at restaurants or on the concourse

Actions: We will

  • Crime reduction advice for visitors by way of crime reduction stands and crime reduction advice being offered by Police Officers and Community Support Officers. Visits by patrols to Restaurants advising staff of potential risks, with follow up visits by a Crime reduction officer if appropriate. High visibility patrols.

  • Plan and execute plain clothes directed patrols

  • By intelligence led policing seek to identify suspects who are known or suspected of such crimes

  • Work in partnership with Network Rail and the train operating companies to reduce the number of offences occurring

Results - we did:

In the past, St. Pancras officers have ran both SPEEED Workshops (St. Pancras Edducation Enforcement and Disruption) and Op. Yale. To read further, please click here

Latest - Op. TPP (Theft of Passenger Property operation) was run on Monday 2nd April 2012 at St. Pancras International involving NPT and Tasking officers.

Results: 4 stop and engagements carried out and no arrests made.

 2. Theft from Retailers

Issues: Theft from retailers accounted for a number of offences being recorded in the previous six months  from a variety of premises.

Actions: We will

  • Actively promote the use of shopwatch radios by existing holders and expand the coverage to new holders, ensuring adequate training is given to staff encourage reporting of suspicious incidents and persons.
  • Work in partnership with Network Rail to make effective use of the extensive CCTV systems to prevent offences, or when offences have occurred identify potential suspects.
  • Directed patrols by uniformed patrols at peak times for criminal activity to prevent crimes and to provide reassurance to staff
  • Directed patrols by plain clothes officers using intelligence led policing to identify hotspots and potential suspects
  • Offer the services of a Crime Reduction Officer to advise on security issues

 Results - we did:

  • Routinely engage with holders of shopwatch radios with radio checks to and from officers and our partners in the Network Rail Control Room, ensuring all parties are comfortable and conversant with using the system.
  • In the past, St. Pancras officers have ran Op. Welfare Quill. To read further, please click here
  • Latest - Op. Diary (1) is an Anti-Social behaviour operation, will be carried out by Tasking and NPT officers between 1st - 29th February 2012 at St. Pancras International. This Anti-Social behaviour joint operation will involve officers from the Tasking and NPT officers allowing them to do joint-patrols and security checks throughout the station and retail sites. Results: listed below in events section.

3. Public Reassurance

Issues: High Visibility Policing and Improved Public Contact

Actions: We will

  • Direct patrols using intelligence led policing to be visible at peak times and key locations

  • Conduct integrated patrols with Network Rail Staff, National Car parks staff and our colleagues from the MPS Safer Neighbourhood Teams

  • Through use of Neighbourhood Policing newsletters and BTP web site and other media sources publicise the our work and engagements with the community.

  • Keep victims of crime appraised of the progress of enquiries with minimum standards of contact to be adhered to, Dip sample quality assurance calls being made by a supervisor.

  • Hold regular drop-in surgeries and PACT meetings to fully integrate our community in the planning processes.

Results - we did:

In the past, St. Pancras officers have ran Op. Welfare. To read further, please click here

Latest - Op. Welfare Quill 12 (public reassurance operation) was carried out on Sunday 8th April 2012 at St. Pancras International by Tasking and NPT officers. Results: Retail sites were visited by officers and daily security logs checked

Football - East Midlands London to Leeds Trophy - 11/04

On Wednesday, 11 April, BTP London North played the first-leg tie against BTP North East at East Ham Rugby club. Both teams, hoping to win the first ‘East Midlands London to Leeds’ trophy, contested this eagerly awaited game and it was London North, who were cheered on by local school children watching, who went into half-time 2-0 up with both goals from Mark McKevitt.

In the second half, North East tried to get back into the game but was just unable. London North scored another two goals through Jim McLean and Mark McKevitt (hat-trick) to kill off any chance of a North East comeback and at 4-0, Richard ‘the Lion’ Bonner made an incredible penalty save against North East captain John Moses. With both teams tiring, Jim McLean and Russ McPherson both scored and gave London North an impressive but deservedly 6-0 lead to take to Leeds in May.

Jason Donnelly, East Midlands St. Pancras Station Manager, said: “It is a pleasure for East Midlands Trains to sponsor this event and it shows the excellent relationship which has been built between East Midlands Trains and British Transport Police London North. Win, lose or draw, it is always good to see people raising money for charity and I hope that these games will become an annual event.”
