Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Bicycle Theft

Passengers have informed us of several incidents of theft of a pedal cycle in the last few months at various locations across the network.

Actions

  • Uniformed police patrols to deter, disrupt and detect offences.
  • Tag bikes and register frame serial numbers on the Immobilise site.
  • Provide passengers with crime prevention advice.
  • Use CCTV to help detect and deter any further offences.

2. Graffiti and Stone Throwing at Pedley Street, Shorditch

The Railway has reported several incidents of Graffiti and Stone Throwing over the last quarter. This has had an impact on both the running of the East London Overground line and its day to day maintenance.

3. Theft of passenger property of the North London line

Crime analysis has identified a rise in the theft of passenger property.

Actions

  • Uniformed police patrols to deter, disrupt and detect offences.
  • Liaise with the LOROL fault management team to log and catalogue all incidents of graffiti.
  • Build up intelligence and catalogue all graffiti tags used in conjunction with the area intelligence unit.
  • Work with the Metropolitan safer neighbourhood team.

Results

A seasonal comarison shows that there have been 29 less reported incidents of graffiti compared to the figures from April 2010-28 February 2011.

We are continuing our plain clothes and uniform patrols on the LOROL line running to Stratford, although ther numbers of thefts of personal property has risen in line with increased passenger numbers using the line.

Result

A man arrested by a plain clothed Police Officer in December 2011 for stealing a passenger's bag whilst on a London Overground train at Highbury and Islington station. He was sentenced in February 2012 to thirteen weeks imprisonment.

Recent Events

BOX PARK opened it's doors at the beginning of December 2011 next door to Shoreditch High Street Station. Our neighbourhood team has been working closely with the management of the centre and retailers to give crime prevention advice. We have regular patrols around the mall in uniform and plain clothes and liaise closely with all the retailers and staff.

Bicycle Theft:

Teams have been conducting regular bike tagging events in which you can register your bike, for more information contact us. We have been focusing on an increase in thefts on the East London line and proactively patrolling this area.

Bike tagging events have been held across the East London Line, in the Spring and Summer of 2011, for those who have had a tag fitted please remember to register this with Immobilise, you can do this on http://www.immobilise.com. If you would like to get your bicyle tagged and have not had the opportunity yet, please contact us and will endevour to accomodate you.

Graffiti and Stonethrowing.

Since April 2011 we have focused our team on patrolling the area of Pedley Street, Shoreditch. There is a large wasteland here used by youths for graffiti on the railway bridge, officers are conducting patrols throughout the day and night. This was tackled as part of a Problem Solving Plan which has led to a marked decrease in reported incidents of graffiti.
