Current neighbourhood policing priorities

1. Theft of passenger property on the railway

(April 2012)

In preparation for the Olympics in JULY 2012 the railway is attempting to reduce theft of passenger property by 10%. This is a joint operation in conjunction with TFL, LOROL, The LONDON Mayor, The METROPOLITAN POLICE and the BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE.

RESULTS

14 neighbourhood surgeries have been completed since November 14th 2011 and 50 items of passenger property has been marked and registered on Immobilise.com.

Arrests have been made regarding a number of phone snatches.

Actions.

  • Officers will conduct high-visibility patrols on the line to prevent and deter this behaviour.

  • Staff will be encouraged to report any relevant incidents to BTP and record these in their BTP incident log books.
  • To build intelligence on those suspected of committing this offence.
  • Use CCTV to collect images of offenders.
  • Hold neighbourhood policing surgeries along the GOSPEL OAK to BARKING line for the purpose of marking and registering passenger property and dispensing crime prevention advice.

2. Trespass on the Gospel Oak to Barking line.

(April 2012)

LOROL and the BTP are working together to reduce the amount of trespass incidents that occur on the line and disrupt the railway network.

RESULTS

Several suspects have been charged and reported to court for several trespass crimes over the last month.

OP MARSHGATE set up for the purpose of dedicated trespass patrols.

Actions

  • Encourage staff to report trespass to the BTP so that CCTV can be obtained.
  • Build intelligence on times and suspects, looking for patterns in offences and to identify if it's an individual causing multiple offences or multiple offenders causing one offence.
  • Patrols by officers during duty times to liaise with staff and security and to deter and prevent incidents from reoccurring.
  • Work with LOROL and NETWORK RAIL to reduce access to track by identifying weak links in fencing and access points.

3. Trespassing and Stone Throwing at South Tottenham station.

(April 2012)

LOROL has reported recently that piles of ballast have been pilled up on the points east of South Tottenham station. Also Stones were thrown at a passenger train passing the same area.

RESULTS

A PSP has been launched by the NPT team and a site visit was carried out on the 24/04/2012 as a result a fault log has been raised for a damaged fence and the removal of timber being use to access the trackside.

Actions

  • High-visibility patrols of the Bluebell estate to deter and prevent recurring incidents.

  • Liaise with youths found in the area and make them aware of both the dangers and criminal consequences of trespassing and stone-throwing.

  • Use CCTV to help identify suspects and offences.

  • Liaise with staff to build detailed intelligence on offence times and locations.

  • Site visit to establish access and ability to prevent access.

Events

We hold three types of events: partners and community together (PACT) meetings, neighbourhood surgeries and community engagement meetings. PACT meetings are held every two months with rail industry and community representatives to set our team priorities. Neighbourhood surgeries are run at various locations across the line, at these surgeries we speak to passengers and give out crime prevention advice. Community engagements are set up with the intention of building stronger links with the communities in which we patrol. If you would like more information about our upcoming events please contact us.
