Guidance for officers entering the rail
infrastructure
To ensure your safety while on the rail
network, please take a moment to review the guidance issued by ACPO
for all emergency services entering the railway infrastructure.
To establish a location on the rail
network
Network Rail’s control rooms supply OS grid
references to pinpoint a location on the rail network rather than
standard post codes. This can pose problems for Home Office forces
when trying to establish the location of an incident on the
railway. We can help; we have a linked mapping interpretation tool
available 24/7 from our control rooms on 0800 40 50 40 to assist
you in identifying the nearest road or access point to the
railway.
Some local forces may have this
mapping interpretation tool installed in their control rooms but
are not regularly using it, or may not even be aware that they have
it. Your assistance making your control room aware of the
availability of this tool, through contact with the BTP control
rooms, is appreciated.
