British Transport Police (BTP) is committed to implementing the
actions required to adhere to the Freedom of Information
Act.
The Freedom of Information Act introduced a general right
of access to information and came into effect 1st January 2005. The
Act gives a right of access to all types of recorded information
held by public authorities, but also sets out exemptions from that
right. Information about exemptions can be found in the

Public Guidance document.
Individuals already have, and will continue to have, the right
to ask for information about themselves under the Data Protection
