Chief Constable Paul Crowther welcomes you to our
Welcome to British Transport Police
The railways are a low crime environment which provide a safe
way to travel, but we know it sometimes doesn’t feel like that. Our
aim is to keep passengers and rail staff safe – and make them feel
We work closely with rail operators to help protect passengers and
rail staff and ensure the rail system is as free from crime and
disorder as we can make it.
If you need us in an emergency, rail staff have direct connections
to our control rooms from which we can make an immediate response.
You can also call 999. We work with local police forces, so if they
are closer we will ask them to attend, ensuring you get help as
quickly as possible.
"We can all play a part in
keeping the rail system safe"
We also have a single non-emergency number for you to contact us
from anywhere in the country. It’s a Freefone number - 0800
40 50 40 - although you may be charged if you use a
mobile. You can also text us on 61016 if
you are unable to call.
We can all play a part in keeping the rail system safe. Whether you
are a passenger or a member of rail staff, your contribution is
vital. We welcome your help in reporting crime, supplying
information and supporting our activities.
