Welcome to British Transport Police
The railways are a low crime environment which provide a safe
way to travel, but we know it sometimes doesn’t feel like that. At
BTP our aim is to keep passengers and rail staff safe – and make
them feel safe.
We work closely with rail operators to help protect passengers
and rail staff and ensure the rail system is as free from crime and
disorder as we can make it.
If you need us in an emergency, rail staff have direct
connections to our control rooms from which we can make an
immediate response. You can also call 999. We work in partnership
with local police, so if they are closer we will ask them to
attend, ensuring you get help as quickly as possible.
We also have a single non-emergency number for you to contact us
from anywhere in the country. It is a Freefone number - 0800 405040
– although you may be charged if you use a mobile.
We can all play a part in keeping the rail system safe. Whether
you are a passenger or a member of rail staff, your contribution is
vital. We welcome your help in reporting crime, supplying
information and supporting our activities.
I hope you find the information you are looking for on our site.
You can find out about our Policing Plan targets and performance,
look at crime statistics and read about the issues we face and what
we are doing to tackle them. You can also access a range of online
services, download information and find contact points across the
organisation.
Thank you for your interest in BTP and have a safe journey.
